The digital workspace is Randy's starting tool of choice for his fine art endeavors. But for Susick, the computer is simply a means to an end. His resulting prints maintain the appearance of an original monotype, or abstract art illusionist airbrush painting. The organic or cityscape images resonate on a deep level while the technological element alters the images, engaging the eye from the representational to the abstract. Nothing is set up to be photographed; the photo is just there at that moment, more as a reflection of that time and space. Susick's original art pieces play with not just the physics of image generation, but also the physics of perception. He begins with digital photography and uses Adobe PhotoShop to rework the image until it is mostly abstract. Still, one can see the underlying physical structure that was originally photographed. This altered model of form is then further modified after printing. An original piece is created as Susick adds to the surface of the high quality Giclee prints with airbrush, pastel and thick Acrylic paint. Physical objects such as painted wire, rocks and various other objects are also attached to the surface of his printed/painted images and integrate seamlessly into his work for a sculptured look, which give it a Post Industrial feel. His work reaffirms his statement that Adobe PhotoShop seems to have mystical powers. Indeed, Susick's work has mystical powers as well.
